Nov 09,2021
The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for the manufacturing industry, released by the National Bureau of Statistics and the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, has been above 50% for 19 consecutive months. In August, the PMI was 53.1%, indicating that manufacturing enterprises maintained stable growth in production. The new order index for August, released during the same period, was 53.1%, indicating that the international market demand for the manufacturing industry has increased compared to the previous month. Correspondingly, according to Chinese customs statistics, the export situation of China's main home textile products from January to August 2010 has improved compared to the same period last year, with varying degrees of growth.
Significant growth in exports of major home textile products
bedding article
According to customs statistics, from January to August, China exported a total of 1.155 billion pieces of bedding, with a value of 2.403 billion US dollars, an increase of 34.85% and 32.28% year-on-year, respectively. The average export price decreased by 1.89% compared to the same period last year. In fact, since the beginning of this year, the export of bedding products in China has been showing a trend of increasing quantity and decreasing price, but the price decline has been narrowing month by month. In August, 161 million pieces were exported, with a total value of 347 million US dollars. The export quantity, amount, and monthly average unit price were basically the same as last month.
In terms of specific materials, the export quantity of cotton bedding from January to August reached 365 million pieces, with a total value of 1.382 billion US dollars, an increase of 19.8% and 23.35% year-on-year, respectively. The average export price slightly increased by 2.99% year-on-year.
Chemical fiber bedding, due to its economic and practical characteristics, has a slightly better export situation, with an export quantity of 767 million pieces and a value of 960 million US dollars, an increase of 42.78% and 46.77% respectively year-on-year, and an average export price increase of only 2.46% year-on-year.
The export quantity of linen bedding is not large. From January to August, the export quantity was 1.45 million pieces, with an export value of 12.9 million US dollars. Due to a significant decline in exports of this type of product during the same period last year, the rebound this year is relatively high, with an increase of 68.61% in quantity and 50.81% in value. However, the average export price decreased by 10.57% year-on-year, indicating a decline in the quality of exported products.
As a type of daily consumer goods with high prices, silk bedding products have gradually rebounded in exports. From January to August, 810000 pieces were exported, with an export value of 7.88 million US dollars, an increase of 16.32% and 35.87% year-on-year, respectively. The average export unit price increased by 16.79% year-on-year. Although the growth trend of hemp and silk bedding products is the most obvious, the export quantity and amount of these two types of products are not large, so their impact on the overall trend of China's bedding exports is not significant.
carpet
From January to August, the export quantity and amount of carpets in China increased across the board, with a total export quantity of 364300 tons and an export value of 1.23 billion US dollars, an increase of 42.13% and 32.7% year-on-year, respectively. However, the average export unit price decreased by 3.16% year-on-year. Similar to bedding, the average unit price of carpet exports has been declining since the beginning of this year, but the decline has been narrowing month by month. In August, carpet exports amounted to 49800 tons, with a value of 177 million US dollars, a month on month decrease of 3.88% in export quantity and a month on month increase of 2.87% in export value.
curtain
Since the beginning of this year, the export quantity and amount of curtains in China have recovered well, but the export prices have not changed much. The export amount of curtains from January to August was 1.275 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 20.96%; The export quantity reached 365 million pieces, a year-on-year increase of 20.74%; The average export price slightly increased by 0.29%. In August, 51.44 million items were exported, with a total value of 180 million US dollars. The export quantity and amount both decreased compared to the previous month, with a magnitude of 4.78% and 1.50% respectively. The average export price for the month increased by 3.54% compared to the previous month.
towel
From January to August, China exported 373 million towels (mainly cotton bath towels), with an export value of 805 million US dollars, an increase of 23.96% and 32.57% year-on-year, respectively. The average export unit price increased by 6.93% year-on-year. Since the beginning of this year, export prices have maintained stable growth, which is a gratifying phenomenon, indicating that the product grade and added value of towels (mainly cotton bath towels) in China are steadily recovering. In August, exports amounted to 45.42 million units, a continuous decline for three months, with a total value of 94.15 million US dollars. The export quantity, amount, and unit price of the month all showed a downward trend compared to the previous month, with amplitudes of 5.69%, 7.48%, and 1.90%, respectively.
Table fabric
Since the beginning of this year, the export of table fabrics has recovered significantly, but the downward trend in prices has not been completely curbed. From January to August, the export quantity reached 497 million pieces, a year-on-year increase of 40.1%; The amount reached 407 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 23.55%; The average export unit price decreased by 11.93% year-on-year. In fact, since the beginning of this year, the export of table fabrics has shown a trend of increasing quantity and decreasing price. In August, the situation slightly improved, with export quantity increasing by 7.06% month on month, amount increasing by 19.54% month on month, and price increasing by 11.36% month on month.
Decorative fabrics
Decorative fabrics mainly include bed covers and decorative outlets. The recovery situation of bed cover exports from January to August is relatively optimistic, with an export quantity of 59.47 million pieces, a year-on-year increase of 24.03%; The export amount reached 221 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 26.48%; The average export price increased by 1.92% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the export of decorative items is showing a trend of increasing quantity and decreasing price. The export quantity of decorative items from January to August was 130000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 42.22%; The amount reached 827 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 30.54%, while the average export price decreased by 8.24% year-on-year. From the data, the export prices of decorative items have been declining year-on-year since the beginning of this year, but the decline is continuously narrowing.
The export market is still too concentrated
From the perspective of export target markets, the United States remains the largest market for China's home textile exports. Last year, Japan was once the largest market for our country's carpet exports, but this year the largest market for all major home textile products is the United States. The excessive concentration of export markets greatly reduces the ability of home textile enterprises to resist risks. At the same time, Europe and the United States are high-risk areas for trade frictions. If trade protection measures are implemented against China, it will increase the difficulty for enterprises to export.
India and Pakistan are my main competitors
From the import statistics of the US Customs from January to August, it can be seen that India and Pakistan are the main competitors of China's home textile products in the US market.
From the above table, it can be seen that in the US home textile market, China, India, and Pakistan are the main competitors, with comparable export quantities and amounts. Among several major categories of export products, these three countries basically occupy the top three positions. From the US Customs import data we track, it can be seen that in recent years, India and Pakistan have continuously seized the market share of Chinese home textiles in the United States.
Although the current situation of export enterprises accepting orders is relatively good, profits have significantly declined compared to the same period last year. The main reason is that raw material prices have risen significantly since the beginning of this year. Although some companies have raised export prices by 5% to 15%, it is far lower than the increase of more than 50% in raw material prices. On the other hand, the uncertainty of exchange rates has a significant impact on enterprises
